Weekly Recap: Back from Sickness, Then Pulled Back

I hate that it’s been so long since my last post, especially since so much has happened!  I’ve learned over these past few months that blogging can be extremely time-consuming with reading, writing, planning, commenting, taking/editing photos, participating in link-ups, etc.  And while I truly do enjoy it all, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming…so I took a little break for a few days.

The last time I posted, I was coming out of a pretty annoying cold.  Thanks for all the well wishes! Fortunately, it passed rather quickly!  I was able to get back to business last week with some much-needed exercise.

But now it seems that it’s come back with a vengeance!  This past weekend I was in NYC for my friend’s 30th birthday.  We had a great time, but I took the Bolt Bus, rode the subway, and shared a room with 3 other people.  Oh yeah, and the temperature was in the 40’s!  By Sunday I had a cough, Monday the sore throat and body aches kicked in (plus more snow and 20 degree weather), and today I’ve got a killer headache and even nastier cough.  So I had to call out sick again, which really bums me out.

I’ve been working on getting lots of rest and drinking lots of tea.  Maybe I’ll try sipping that apple cider vinegar after all?!

Workouts for the Week

Monday 1/27:  I started off with 30 minutes on the spinning bike at the gym at work, which really gave me a good sweat.  Then I followed with the 15 minute Core Crunch on the Nike Training Club app.  I haven’t done anything with my core in weeks, and it showed!  I was dying!

Tuesday 1/28:  Boot Camp cancelled again so I took it as a rest day.

Wednesday 1/29:  I missed Core and More Class, but luckily after work Elga had a class in the gym at the Main Building and she allowed me to join in!  So I had 45 minutes of cardio kickboxing which felt great.  Then I followed that with a few balance exercises.

Thursday 1/30:  Did some hip strengthening and glutes exercises and then finally had Boot Camp class.  We did a lot of work with weights and it was really hard for me to keep up.  Then we did even more hip and glutes work, and it was sooo hard to hold on.  I drank an energy drink that I got from my Bulu box about an hour prior to class, but it clearly didn’t work.
Friday 1/31:  My glutes are lower back are crying!  Woke up completely sore.

Saturday 2/1:  Ran with Bret, did a couple of hill repeats and then the Art Museum “Rocky” Steps for a few laps for just under 3 miles total.

Since I’m back to being sick, I know I need to take it easy and focus on rest.  But I still want to keep my best foot going forward, so maybe I’ll do a few clam shells a little later…

How have your workouts been going?  Have you tried anything new?
