Friday Five: My Fall Plans

By Janelle @ Run With No Regrets | Uncategorized

Hey!  It’s Friday, and for me the beginning of a 4 day weekend, woohoo!  Since it is Labor Day weekend, it’s the “unofficial” end of summer, and it definitely feels like summer is over!

So I’m linking up with the DC Trifecta:  Eat Pray Run DC, You Signed Up for What, and Mar on the Run to give a Fall Preview.  This is going to be an EXTREMELY busy time of the year for me, but I’m doing my best to keep my head up to conquer all of my goals!  Here’s a glimpse of what lies ahead.

Volunteering at the Philly 10k

The inaugural Philly 10K is coming up next weekend (wow that’s hard to believe!) and I’ll be there volunteering!  I mentioned back on January 1 that I’d really like to volunteer for a race, really to give back to the running community that has been so good to me.  Unlike most races in the city, it won’t be running along the Schuylkill river, but actually through South Philly and Center City.  I’ll be passing out water bright and early.  I hope to have a good time!

Rock and Roll Philly Half Marathon and 5K

In only a matter of weeks I’ll be finally running the Rock and Roll Philly Half Marathon!  As you know, I’ve been training for the past several weeks. Check out my recaps for Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5, Week 6, and Week 7.

What I haven’t really mentioned is that I’m also doing the Rock and Roll Philly 5K on the Saturday before!  I’m a little nervous about it because I didn’t quite tell Coach Kristy about the 5K, and I’m supposed to take that day off for my training plan.  I haven’t run a 5K since April, where I blew myself away with the 27:11….so I’m not trying to PR.  I really only signed up to get the cool medals, as this will definitely be the last time I do Rock and Roll Philly.

Thanks so much to everyone who’s been encouraging and supportive about that rough Week 7.  I really have moved on and I’m looking forward to finishing strong these last few weeks!

Professional Engineering Exam

This is the big one.  This is where most of my time will be consumed.  I’ve mentioned that I’m studying for the Professional Engineering (PE) Exam in Environmental Engineering.  After getting my professional references and submitting my application in early June, I JUST got confirmation that I’m approved to take the exam.  It was such a nerve wracking experience!  But thankfully the State Board approved me with no objections to my work experience.

I’ll be studying my butt off these next 2 months on all the Environmental Engineering topics:  Air, Water, Waste, Health and Safety.  I’ve signed up for a review course that is supposed to have 90% pass rate for the exam, so I hope that it will work for me!  I’ve got tons of textbooks and notes to organize, problems to solve…pray for me!  Once October 24 is over, I’ll be a free woman, and hopefully a PE after that!

Fall Kickball League

The summer kickball team was a ton of fun.  We really bonded with some of our teammates and had a blast singing karaoke after the games.  I think we only won one game, but it didn’t matter, we got to know some really cool people and just have a great time.  So we formed a league for the fall, and we’re trying to have as many people as possible so we don’t struggle so much with having enough players, especially girls!  Unfortunately, due to my PE review class I won’t be able to play many games…but I’m still really excited for us to do it again and get some W’s this tie around!

Weekend Getaway

This hasn’t been planned yet, but with everything mentioned up top, I am definitely going to need to get away when all of the madness is over!  I don’t know where I want to go yet, but I don’t want it to be too far of a drive from Philly.  I was thinking of checking out Bucks County or maybe go up to Jim Thorpe…it’s supposed to be so beautiful in the fall with all the leaves changing colors.  I’m open to all suggestions!

What do you have coming up this fall?  What are you most excited about?
