5 Things in My Gym Bag

Happy Friday!!  I wish I could say that I’m jumping for joy but I’m actually sick!  On Wednesday, I started to feel like I was coming down with something.  I hoped I was wrong but clearly…I’ve got whatever virus is going around.  So I’ve been munching on oranges and guzzling on hot tea and soup all day…and not getting enough rest, go figure!

Today I am linking up with the DC Trifecta:  You Signed Up For What, Mar on the Run, and Eat Pray Run DC for the Friday Five!  This week we’re talking about 5 things we have in our gym bags!

What’s in My Gym Bag?

It sounds silly, but the gym bag is a crucial accessory to have when you’re working out and on the go!  Between 2-4 times a week, my gym bag is thrown over my shoulder in the morning as I head to work.  I’ve been either running or cardio kickboxing at lunch, or doing boot camp after work.  Once my classes and Cherry Blossom training gets rolling, I’ll practically be living out of this thing!

I used to have a really small, really cheap bag that was a gym bag in name only.  All of my things were unceremoniously dumped in, so it was always a pain to find what I needed.  Once the zipper broke, I finally “splurged” and got this awesome Adidas bag with more compartments than I can count!

My Gym Bag

I love my bag!

I’m able to fit a lot more in this bag, and here are just 5 of the things I found when digging inside:

Piloxing Gloves

I’ve mentioned that I take a cardio kickboxing class that’s offered through work.  The instructor, Elga Lyle, was kind enough to gift me these piloxing gloves to use in the class.  Piloxing is a unique workout that infuses Pilates and boxing.  Each glove is weighted to 1 pound, so it makes those punches a little bit more challenging.  I’ve really missed our cardio kickboxing since the holidays.  We start up again next week, finally!

Running Shoes

Of course, I have to have my shoes!  I take my Puma Faas for my boot camp workouts and my Adidas Supernova Glide Boosts for my runs.  I still need to find cross-training shoes for cardio kickboxing….now that I have a gift card for Nike, I may be able to find the right pair for the class!

Towel

I always keep a workout towel in my gym bag.  Cardio kickboxing is in one of our training rooms in the Plant and sometimes the floor is pretty filthy!

Theraband

I actually didn’t even realize it was in my bag!  When I was in physical therapy this resistance band was my best friend.  I really need to keep using it because it’s great for hip strengthening exercises like clamshells and side leg raises.

Sunscreen

My gym bag has so many pockets and secret compartments in it that apparently I still have sunscreen in there!  Last summer, while not as hot as usual, was still pretty brutal, and when you’re out to run at high noon, you better make sure your skin is protected!
