Hey! I hope your week has been going great so far! I am SO happy that the wintry weather has finally said goodbye! Bring on the sun!
Since it’s Wednesday I’m linking up with Workout Wednesday – hosted by Diatta from Femme Fitale Fit Club and Sheila from The Frugal Exerciser! Check out their sites and find some cool new workouts!
On the “Paradise” Green Trail at Blue Mountain
Over the weekend, I did get to enjoy winter for a little while longer. On Saturday morning, we hit the road for my long-awaited trip to Blue Mountain in the Poconos for a day of skiing and snowboarding! Bret has never gone skiing before, and I haven’t gone snowboarding in over 3 years. Needless to say….it’s NOT like riding a bike!
I had originally planned a big trip that was supposed to include staying overnight and hanging out with lots of people, but it only ended up being 4 of us out there…which was fine by me!
The snowboard and I had a rough go…I went down a green trail a couple of times and I fell a LOT. But thankfully it got better as I kept going. I briefly got to see my friend Dylon and my other pal Stephen…I just wish we could have spent more time together! And I was most happy that Bret tried something new and while it wasn’t easy, he still enjoyed it. So the ski day was a victory!
Now on to this past week of Cherry Blossom training…how did it go?
Another week of Cherry Blossom Training plus a day on the slopes! #sweatpink #wowlinkup #girlsgonesporty Click To TweetWednesday 3/4: I had a busy day of meetings at work so I didn’t make it to Cardio Kickboxing class. After work, I had a 4-mile run followed by strides. I felt pretty crappy at first because I ate too many Twizzlers before my run (see my post from Saturday – it’s a problem!). But eventually, I shook it off and had a good run.
Thursday 3/5: Day of rest!
Friday 3/6: Cardio Kickboxing was cancelled due to the bad weather. In the evening I did speed work: 1 mile of warmup, then I did 2 minutes of intervals on and off at 5K pace for four sets, cooling down to 4 miles.
Saturday 3/7: Lots of falling on Blue Mountain!
Sunday 3/8: Because of the ski trip I moved my 9-mile long run to Sunday. I was very nervous that my body would be too tired from a day on the mountain, but thankfully it seemed to have no effect on me! I felt great during the entire course of the run, even speeding up a full minute per mile on my last 3 miles! I finished in about 1:40…I was so happy! After my run I had a lengthy foam rolling and stretching session and said hello an Epsom salt bath!
Monday 3/9: I had my 4-mile easy run. Unfortunately, for a good portion of the run my shins were bugging me, especially my right shin. So I definitely think that it’s time to get some new green Superfeet insoles! I just wish they were cheaper…$50 is really pricey, even though I’ll be able to use them for a year.
Tuesday 3/10: Boot Camp Class with an emphasis on the hips. I’m a little worried that I may have tweaked my hip on my left side…so I need to be careful. But otherwise I enjoyed the pushups, mountain climbers, burpees, and squats!
I’m really proud of how week 6 shaped up, especially with the 9 mile run! I’ve hated having to rearrange my runs to get it all in, but I’m thankful that I’ve been able to work it out. There were definitely times when I didn’t want to go out there, but I didn’t make any excuses!
My only critique is that I still need to spend even more time with my strength training. My knees did hurt after my long run, and my shins are a nuisance that I don’t want to deal with anymore. I need to spend more time on my hips and glutes. I even think that my core isn’t as strong as I’d like it to be. So I may need to get back with Nike Training Club to work on some things.
Week 6 grade? A!
