We are back to Friday, my favorite day of the week!
I’m linking up with the DC Trifecta: Mar from Mar on the Run, Cynthia from You Signed Up for What, and Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC for the Friday Five! We will all be talking about what we love about the Spring!
5 Best Things about Spring! #fridayfive #cityfitgirls #sweatpink Click To TweetI am extremely glad that this evening will be the official start of spring! I think I can safely say that the majority of this country experienced awful winter weather that seemed to have no end in sight! And it may even still be snowing in your neck of the woods, like it is right now in Philly! I thought the Polar Vortex was bad last year, but this year Mother Nature really let us have it with super cold temperatures and too much snow! So I thought I would share some of the wonderful things to look forward to with spring weather!
This one is pretty obvious…when the trees and flowers begin to bloom it’s the most beautiful thing about spring! I missed the Flower Show this year, but I look forward to building up our own home garden on our back deck. I mentioned at the Ultimate Coffee Date that I’m getting into gardening, and I really hope that it will become a very fun and productive hobby!
I am so excited for the weather to be warm enough to get back on my bike! My bike is VERY beat up and in desperate need of a replacement, so I’m considering getting a new one, probably a hybrid, that I can use both around the city and out on the gorgeous trails in the Greater Philadelphia area.
What’s even more exciting is that Philly is joining the 21st century and starting up a Bike Share this spring! I really don’t like driving around the city and would love to reduce my carbon footprint and burn a good amount of calories, so I look forward to signing up!
Have I mentioned that I love beer? But only the good stuff (It is NOT Miller time!). Philadelphia just so happens to be one of the big beer capitals of the U.S., and in June we’ll have the annual Philly Beer Week! And on top of that, Philly has become the city of beer gardens, and I look forward to seeing what will pop up this spring and through the summer and fall. I’m looking forward to heading back to Frankford Hall in Fishtown, Spruce Street Harbor Park near Penn’s Landing, and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Pop-Up Garden…among others!
I never would have thought that baseball would be on my list, but Bret is a Kansas City Royals fan and last year I had a great time following them all the way through their World Series Run! We are planning a trip to see them play the Yankees this spring, so I’m really excited about it! We will also catch some of the Minor League games for the Camden Riversharks and the Wilmington Blue Rocks…bring it on (but don’t tell Bret that)!
Spring is well-known for its racing season and I am SO excited to be healthy enough this year to be a part of it! As you know, I’ve been training for the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run coming up on April 12. I’m also participating in the Run for Clean Air 5K on April 18, the Zooma Women’s 10K in Annapolis on May 30, and the 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut Half Marathon on June 13. I can’t wait to put away the pants and only wear running shorts for the next several months!
I’m also looking forward to spectating at the famous Broad Street Run since I have several friends who’ll be participating this year. It’s usually a very fun day!
What do you love about the spring? What are you most looking forward to?
