Hey! Hope everything is going great for you today! Life has been SO busy, but I really can’t complain too much!
Since it’s Wednesday I’m linking up with Diatta from Femme Fitale Fit Club and Sheila from The Frugal Exerciser for Workout Wednesday! I’m finally going to dig into the details of my next big race: The 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut Half Marathon, coming up on June 13!
If you’re an older reader of the blog, this race may sound familiar because Bret participated in it last year! It takes place in Northeast Philadelphia in Pennypack Park and is hosted by Uber Endurance Sports. Everything is German! Runners – male and female – will be out with their lederhosen! There is even an accordion player out there that will entertain you at various points of the course! And after the race is when it really gets fun – beer, bratwurst, and live German dancing…gotta love it! Bret had a great experience with this race, so I thought it would be great if we ran it together.
Once the Cherry Blossom Run was coming to an end, I talked to Coach Kristy about continuing our work together in preparation for the 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut. So of course she was eager to keep working with me! And after that race was over, I was back to training 2 days later! I am still running 4 days a week, but now things are getting a little bit more challenging: Still doing strides, hill work and speed work, but going a bit faster and longer. You know I’m excited about that!
I also have the Zooma Annapolis 10K a couple of weeks before the race that I’m really excited about. I’m just enjoying running all of these new races and not having crazy expectations! It’s very refreshing and keeping me motivated!
I’ll be recapping my training leading up to the big day. I hope you follow along with me. It’s been amazing to see my progress since January – who knows how I’ll be by June!
Friday 4/24: I took advantage of my day off and ran my 10-mile long run. Check out my recap of the Virtual 10K I participated as part of my training run!
Saturday 4/25: I was supposed to run 3 miles, but we had a full busy day and I didn’t get to it.
Sunday 4/26: About 5.7 miles total: running, walking, and strides. My right hamstring was bothering me since Friday’s run, but I felt okay for the most part.
Monday 4/27: 3 easy miles, split in two since I also spent some time at the batting cage (verdict – I still stink!). My right knee and both heels have been bothering me. I know it’s time to look into new shoes.
Tuesday 4/28: Boot camp class felt tough. We did our usual focus on the core and upper body strength, but we did flutter kicks for the first time in awhile and they were hard! I need to get back on these abs and say no to candy! Then I had Softball game #2. While last week I had one walk and two outs, this time I had two hits and two outs! It was the greatest feeling! We lost this game though in the last inning. Regardless, I had a blast!
This past week, I’m really noticing the effects of not doing my prehab exercises. I haven’t foam rolled in quite some time and my foot roller has been missing me too. So my body feels a little bit beat up. On the running front though, I’m so happy with how my 10-mile run went, and I’m looking forward to getting some more targeted speed work this week! So for this past week of training, I’ll give it a B+!
