May 02

Happy Saturday!  We’re now in the beginning of May!   Since it’s the first Saturday of the month, I’m joining in the Ultimate Coffee Date, hosted by Lynda of Fitness Mom Wine Country, Coco at Got2Run4Me, and Deborah of Confessions of a Mother Runner.  It’s a great way to slow things down and chat about what’s been going on lately!  So won’t you join me?

It's time to catch up with the Ultimate Coffee Date! #ultimatecoffeedate Click To Tweet

Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…I’ve been promoted!  I haven’t really talked about it here on the blog, but I was selected by my Vice President for a new role as Project Manager.  I work in the natural gas industry, and I’ll be working on some pretty high-profile projects that are finally starting to pick up steam.  It’s exciting, but also scary!  This is the first time I’ll be working in a true office environment.  In nearly 7 years at my company I’ve always worked in the Plants, and it is NOT the same.  I don’t want to get swept up in gossip and office politics, I just really want to do a good job.  The other thing is, working in the Plants meant I had to wear flame resistant clothing every day so I need an entirely new wardrobe for work!  I’d love recommendations for cute, reasonably priced professional clothing!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…the new job has me excited about trying new hairstyles since I won’t be wearing a hard hat every single day!  I still have no plans to wear my hair straight – I stopped getting it straightened almost 2 years ago.  I’ve worn a lot of two strand twists styles but I’m looking forward to being more bold.  I really like finger coils and updos.  I need to get on Youtube and finally LEARN how to do these styles!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…this race training cycle has been pretty interesting so far.  I’m training for the 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut Half Marathon which is coming up in mid-June.  Honestly, I haven’t been as gung-ho about my training as I was in the winter.  I know I have to get my runs 4 days a week, but I’ve been feeling pretty drained lately before I even head out for my run.  I missed one of my 3-mile runs, which I did NOT do when training for Cherry Blossom.  Still, when I do go out, I’ve been running well, probably still too fast for what Coach Kristy prescribes.  Hopefully, I’ll get back into a better rhythm now that it’s May!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…I think I may have hit a turning point in softball!  We had our second game this week (which feels like a lifetime ago), and while we lost by one run, I had two singles and scored twice!  It felt like a miracle, finally making contact with the ball.  And Bret was able to be there to see it!  I did strike out twice, but I’ve been choking up on the bat now and that seems to have made the difference.  Once I’m on a base, then I can rely on my ability to run!  I’m happy to see some improvement and I hope we continue to have fun!  I just need to work on not being so SORE for days after a game!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…I’m loving this super warm weather, and it seems like it’s only going up from here!  Nights on our deck will be great!  And I can’t wait to see what grows from our vegetable garden.  It looks like we’ll have lots and lots of tomatoes so I better figure out what to do with them!  I’m hoping the peppers, kale, and squash come through.  I’m also really excited about herbs!  Once things start popping I’ll have to share – and maybe I’ll be able to cook something delicious!

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with me!  What would you share with me if we were having coffee?
