Weekly Meal Planning

There isn’t much to report on the weekly meal planning front.  Last week, Bret made most of the dinners and I had lots of leftovers for lunch, so I didn’t try anything new.

I am going to try something new for breakfast this week, though – overnight oatmeal!  I found a bunch of recipes online that I’m going to give a try, like this Apple Cinnamon Refrigerator Oatmeal from The Yummy Life.  There seems to be an endless amount of possibilities, so I hope I find some flavors that I like!

Last night I made sloppy joe’s in the slow cooker using a new recipe with ground turkey from Skinny Ms.  I’m planning to use this meal as my lunch for the week and pair it with some veggies.

How has healthy eating been going for you?  I seem to have bursts of cooking inspiration amidst a week full of laziness…go figure!

Super Bowl Sunday

Did you watch? As a Buffalo Bills fan living in Philadelphia, I had no dog in this fight   but I was looking forward to watching it at home with Bret.  All I can say is that I wanted to be entertained, and overall, I wasn’t!  Congrats to Peyton Manning and the Broncos for taking care of business, but it made for a boring game.  The Panthers just couldn’t handle that defense.  Sorry, Cam!

What did you think of the Halftime Show?  I liked the tribute to past performers (Whitney and Michael Jackson still give me chills), but I was really disappointed in Coldplay and didn’t see the need for Beyonce and Bruno Mars.  I guess I just didn’t get it…

I wish I could say that I made a bunch of healthy Super Bowl recipes, but nope, we went for the classics – pizza and wings!  We also went to the bar for a little while before the game and had some great beer and really fantastic nachos.  Sorry, I didn’t take any pictures!

Last Days of Drinking Before Lent

Since declaring last week that I’m giving up drinking for Lent, I’ve been on my farewell tour.

Pretty much any opportunity that we’ve gone out, I’ve had a drink for old times’ sake.  A beer with nachos on Sunday, a hurricane with brunch on Saturday, a couple of beers at dinner at a new restaurant on Friday…it’s been a fun week.

It’s been great to hear the positive feedback from people on the blog as I embark on this journey (thank you!) and I’m still looking forward to the challenge.  One friend told me I won’t have as much fun because I won’t be drinking with everyone else, but my goal is to not let that happen.  You shouldn’t need to drink to have fun!

I plan to use the Weekly Wrap to check in on how I’m doing without drinking, so hopefully you’ll keep up with me every Monday!
