It’s time for another Tunes Tuesday linkup with Steff from Run Steff Run and Kimberly from Kooky Runner.  We’re so excited to have you share your favorite music with us each week!

We’re looking for inspiration for our running and workout playlists and even a “jog” down memory lane as you share your favorite jams!

Since it’s the first Tuesday of the month, the theme is motivating music.  In honor of the start of Women’s History Month, I thought I’d share some of my favorite tunes featuring women empowerment!  I hope you enjoy my playlist!

I’m also joining Marcia, Patty, and Erika for Tuesdays on the Run!

Tunes Tuesday:  Independent Women

What types of music motivate you the most?  I’m a HUGE fan of music featuring female artists with strong messages on female empowerment.  Since March marks Women’s History Month, I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to share some of my favorite inspiring songs from women as part of Tunes Tuesday!

How do you even describe the various challenges and pressures that a woman faces every day?  I have a great career, a wonderful boyfriend, and a new home.  But what do I hear about the most – when am I getting married?  When am I having kids?  Society has so many expectations for women and it never seems to end – from the classroom to the board room and everything in between!

Even though it’s never easy, I wouldn’t have it any other way (though can we work on that equal pay for equal work thing?).  I love who I am and I really enjoy music that reminds us that there’s nothing wrong with being authentic to ourselves!

I realize that I have a largely female audience that reads the blog, so I hope you enjoy this week’s playlist featuring themes of female empowerment!

Featured Artists: Female Empowerment

Looking for new music for your workout playlist? Check out Tunes Tuesday, hosted by Run Steff Run, Kooky Runner, and Run With No Regrets! Enjoy this playlist of songs for female empowerment!

Queen Latifah – U.N.I.T.Y:  I absolutely love this song.  Queen Latifah was such a pioneer for female entertainers and entrepreneurs and I’ll always be a fan!  This song is still relevant today.

Chaka Khan – I’m Every Woman:  A classic!  I love Whitney Houston’s version too but I wanted to show love to the originator!

Aretha Franklin – Respect:  Of course this song made the list, Aretha is the queen!

TLC – Unpretty:  TLC always had such great, empowering messages in their songs.  This is one of my favorites.  BOO to anyone who tries to make you feel unpretty!

P!nk – F**kin’ Perfect:  P!nk has always been a badass and she really knows how to be vulnerable in her music, like in this song!

Alicia Keys – Superwoman:  Alicia has been singing songs about the strength and awesomeness of women for years, and I’m here for it!

Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Want to Have Fun:  Because sometimes it’s just that simple!

Jennifer Lopez – Ain’t Your Mama:  I first heard this song in my spinning class and quickly fell in love with it!  It’s just a fun song not to be taken too seriously, lol!

Des’ree – You Gotta Be:  The chorus of this song really resonates with me because as women, we’re always told what we “gotta be” – hard, tough, calm, etc.  Such crap!

Beyonce – Diva:  We all know that Beyonce is huge on female empowerment!  My favorites are her songs from Destiny’s Child but I wanted to show love to this song too!  What’s wrong with being a diva sometimes?

Mary J. Blige – No More Drama:  Mary keeps it real!  I love this song and have had to tell myself “no more drama” more than a few times these past few years!
