It’s a little chilly here in Philly, but apparently, we’re well into the month of May!  Training for the Buffalo Half Marathon continues and I’m excited to finish strong these last few weeks!

I’m joining Courtney of Eat Pray Run DC for her Weekly Training Recap linkup and HoHo and Tricia for the Weekly Wrap!  These are great ways to keep accountable and share your workouts with fellow runners!

PS – I still have my 2 race giveaways open:  The Blossom Philadelphia 5k Night Race on 5/25 and the Utah Valley Marathon/Half Marathon/10K on 6/10!  There’s still time to enter!

Weekly Wrap:  Weekend Festivals and the Broad Street Run

I was happy to be in town once again to have a fun weekend at home that didn’t involve me traveling out of town for a race!  On Friday, I had the day off and was able to do some errands for the house.  We’re currently looking for furniture for our sunroom and our to-be-constructed patio.  K-Mart had some crazy deals and I was so tempted to buy, but Bret was right…we need to get our plan together before we start buying stuff.

On Saturday, after my 11-mile run, we went down to the Graduate Hospital area of the city and visited Bret’s friend’s new house – it was so nice and HUGE, with a great view of the Philly skyline.  We had a fun time hanging out and then went to the South Street Festival just a few blocks away.  There was lots of German beer and food, and tons of people out.  We had a good time but we couldn’t stay out too late because Bret was running the Broad Street Run on Sunday morning!

And run, he did!  I dropped Bret off near the starting area and then struggled to drive through North Philly so that I could park at work and then walk to Broad Street near Temple’s campus.  It was a perfect day for a run – low 50’s and it didn’t seem to be humid out.  It was great to see the wheelchair athletes and the elites fly by.  It wasn’t too long of a wait when I was able to see Bret and give him a quick boost!  He was running a little under a 7:30 pace and was looking great!  As I went to head to the subway to meet him near the finish, it took SO long and unfortunately, he had to wait for me to get to him.  But he finished in 1:14:54….fanastic!  Now he’s motivated to get faster and he just may be “hiring” me to be his coach and provide him with some speed workouts that he can implement as we get closer to the Buffalo Half Marathon!  I’ll let you know how that goes! 🙂

Workouts for the Week

Monday 5/1:  Only a 1/2 hour of yoga during lunch.  I was feeling pretty sore from barre class so this was a nice and easy day.

Tuesday 5/2:  4 miles – 15 minutes easy then 10 x 1-minute intervals.  I was hoping to do this at the track after work but it wasn’t open, so I had to run around North Philly.  It actually went really well and was a great day to run!  Then at 7 pm, I had my first softball game of the year.  We lost horribly, but I still got in a good workout and even got a hit!  I was exhausted when I got home!

Wednesday 5/3:  My whole body was pretty sore after Tuesday’s workouts, especially my inner hip area!  I thought I was properly warmed up, but sprinting around the bases definitely took its toll on me!  I had spin class on the schedule but I listened to my body…I needed to rest so I skipped the class and went straight home!

Thursday 5/4:  Back to running!  Bret and I went for 4 easy miles.  I was still sore from Tuesday, but I was glad to get back out there, even though the hills felt so much tougher!

Friday 5/5:  My official rest day!

Saturday 5/6:  The long run I was dreading – 11 miles.  This was a solo effort and the longest that I’ve had in a while that wasn’t a race!  I went on one of my routes that served me well during Philly Marathon training.  Thankfully, the weather was perfect and I had no issues other than some dehydration!

Sunday 5/7:  No running but plenty of walking around as I supported Bret at the Broad Street Run 10 Miler!  We also went to the Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival, which unfortunately was rained out.

Week 6 Report Card

I’m very pleased with the way my runs went this past week!  It would have been nice to get in a run on Sunday, but it was a busy day.  It turned out that spin class was canceled on Wednesday, so I didn’t miss anything – but I do need to make sure to keep up with my strength training while at home!

So I will give Week 6 a B+:  I clearly need to do more stretching before and after softball so that I’m not hurting the rest of the week!  Less than 3 weeks until the Buffalo Half Marathon!

How was your weekend?  When is your next race?
