For September, I thought I’d cover one of my favorite “genres” of music – Motown! I grew up hearing Motown classics on the radio with my mom. We were all about The Jackson 5, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, etc. We actually had a CD that had several hit songs from Motown artists and we would have a blast listening to them over and over! Because of the fond memories of those times, I wanted to show some love this month for Tunes Tuesday and share some of my favorite jams of Motown!
I really hope you like my selections for this month’s Tunes Tuesday! Scroll down to see the latest additions to my Tunes Tuesday Pump Up Jams playlist on Spotify!
Shotgun – Jr. Walker and the All Stars: This is always one of my mom’s favorites, she would always turn it up when it came on the Oldies station!
I Can’t Help Myself – Four Tops: Sugar pie, honey bunch…such a classic!
You Keep Me Hangin’ On – The Supremes: Can’t have Motown without the Supremes!
(I Know) I’m Losing You – The Temptations: I always think about the Temptations movie when I hear this song!
ABC – The Jackson 5: Shake it, shake it, baby!
Dancing Machine – The Jackson 5: Definitely one of my favorites, I would have been SO in love with MJ back in the 70’s haha!
I Wish – Stevie Wonder: Okay, so this song does make me think of Wild Wild West haha!
Got to Give It Up – Marvin Gaye: This was the song that Robin Thicke and Pharrell ripped off, LOL! Marvin Gaye made some great music!
I’m Coming Out – Diana Ross: I have always loved this song!
Give It To Me Baby – Rick James: Rick James was always a very interesting guy, and he’s from my hometown of Buffalo, NY haha! This might be my favorite song of his, though he had so many great hits!
Let it Whip – Dazz Band: I have many fond memories of jamming out to this song at home!
Do I Do – Stevie Wonder: Love, love, love this song!
All Night Long (All Night) – Lionel Richie: Definitely one of my jams, sorry to admit it! I just love all the horns in this song!
In My House – Mary Jane Girls: I believe they were proteges of Rick James. This was a cool girl group to listen to!
Rhythm of the Night – DeBarge: This song is similar to the Lionel Richie jam, I bet I would have loved partying to this song back in the day, lol!
Part-Time Lover – Stevie Wonder: I know, another Stevie song! This will always be one of my favorites!
Rub You the Right Way – Johnny Gill: This was always a song that got me dancing around the house!
MotownPhilly – Boyz II Men: Is this their only uptempo song? It’s a classic!
