Welcome to the start of a new week!  I’m one week closer to the New Jersey Marathon and I’m sharing my weekly training recap!

It was a busy week but I’m really proud of what I was able to do – keep reading to see how it went!

I’m joining HoHo and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap – it’s always great to see what my fellow running/fitness friends are up to!  I’m also joining Courtney for her Weekly Training Recap linkup and MarciaPatty, and Erika for Tuesdays on the Run!

Weekly Wrap: Super Bowl Champs!!

Did you happen to watch the Super Bowl last night?  I had such a blast watching the Philadelphia Eagles take down the New England Patriots!  It was an exciting game from beginning to end – I really didn’t know if the Eagles would be able to finish the job, especially when they lost the lead in the 4th quarter.  But they got it done and as soon as the game ended, the fireworks began in the neighborhood!  Bret, my sister and I watched the game at Bret’s mom’s place.  It was a really fun time!

I also watched the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and I’m sorry, but Justin Timberlake did NOT do it for me.  As I mentioned during the Coffee Date, I find JT problematic and I was PISSED to watch him perform Rock Your Body, the song that created “Nipplegate” lol…I just thought it was in really poor taste to perform that song in any capacity out of respect for Janet.  And no *NSYNC at all?  Come on, man!  Then, there was the controversial Prince tribute.  Sure, it wasn’t a hologram, but based on what I read from Prince himself, I don’t think he would have wanted a posthumous duet with a singer that he wasn’t exactly crazy about.  But in general, Justin’s performance was scattered, lazy, and boring for me – I’ve seen him in concert and he can do so much better, but he doesn’t have to…smh!

But back to the Eagles – we are so proud of the team and the city is going to be celebrating for a long time!  I’m glad I got to witness it.  Hopefully, no one was hurt last night in all the shenanigans and celebrations!

Workouts for the Week

Monday 1/29:  Yoga class at lunch.  We focused on twisting poses, which was a nice change.  My calves were feeling tight from Sunday morning’s barre class.  I also tried a little “toe yoga” at my desk after reading Rachel’s very informative post!

Tuesday 1/30:  I woke up with a familiar pain in my right foot that really freaked me out – that’s where I had a stress fracture back in 2013.  It didn’t take me long to realize that it was probably from doing that toe yoga – oops!  But this was the day for my fartlek run!  5 miles total – 15 minutes warmup, then 5 sets of 3 minutes hard, 2 minutes easy, followed by the cooldown.  This was a really tough run because the wind was relentless!  My paces weren’t great but believe me when I say the full effort was there!  My left shoulder was hurting again, then my right foot started to hurt in the last mile.  I was glad when this run was over.

Wednesday 1/31:  Worked late so I didn’t make it to HIIT the Barre class…it was probably for the best since I was still nervous about my foot!

Thursday 2/1:  5 miles easy and the weather was fantastic!  Thankfully, I had no more foot pain on this run, but I did try to focus on removing the random tension from my left shoulder.  It seems that I may clench my hands more on my left side than my right side…the plot thickens.

Friday 2/2:  Rest day!

Saturday 2/3: 15-mile long run!  Oh man, this was one of the hardest runs I’ve ever had.  It was really tricky for me to figure out what route to take, so I decided to run the Schuylkill River Loop one full time, then keep going another 3.5 miles before turning back.  For once I got the math right and finished right where I wanted to, but to run solo in the cold and wind for nearly 3 hours was mentally so tough!  Thankfully, I made it through!

Sunday 2/4:  I went to barre class in the morning.  I wasn’t feeling great that morning but I was glad I made it in…we did lots of challenging lunges, wide diamond squats, and upper body work.  I actually tried using the 3# weights but it didn’t last long – Kim is ruthless!  In the early afternoon, Bret and I went for a 3 mile run together in the rain.  Once again, didn’t really want to do it but no regrets!  We ran through a new route in the neighborhood so that was a lot of fun!

The face I make after running 15 miles…let me tell you! Mentally, this was one of the hardest runs I’ve ever had. I ran the 8.5 mile Schuylkill loop then kept going another 3.25 miles before heading back to where I started. Even a cold weather running lover like me was miserable with high winds (no matter which direction I was running) and temps in the low 20s…I couldn’t stay warm! So much negative self-talk in the first few miles but I was eventually able to shake it off. Very proud that I didn’t give up and had an average pace under 11 minutes per mile! Training for @njmarathon is no joke! Now…can I nap? 🤣 #winterrunning #sweatpink #bibchat #run215 #cityfitgirls #RWNR #marathontraining #njmarathon #runnersofinstagram #fitbloggroup

Week 5 Report Card

Total Miles for the Week:  28.0

Total Training Miles for NJ Marathon:   112.45

I am so proud of this past week of training!  While I missed barre, I didn’t miss any of my runs and that’s what matters the most.  The wind made things challenging, but I did my best.  Now, I am concerned about this recent shoulder pain, so I reached out to Coach Laura to see if she could give me some guidance.  I’m going to work on some things and hopefully get to the bottom of it ASAP.  Week 5 gets an A grade!

Now don’t forget, tomorrow is the first Tuesday of February, aka Tunes Tuesday with Steff, Kim, and me!  We hope you join us ALL MONTH LONG to share your favorite love songs – feel free to get creative with the theme!

Is your February off to a good start?  How was your week of working out?  Did you watch the Super Bowl or Halftime Show?
