The New Jersey Marathon is complete and I’m in full recovery mode!  To round things out, I wanted to share my final week of training for the race.  You’ll have to wait just a little longer for my full recap, but hopefully, the teaser below will hold you over until then, lol!

I’m joining HoHo and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap – it’s always great to see what my fellow running/fitness friends are up to! I’m also joining Courtney for her Weekly Training Recap linkup and MarciaPatty, and Erika for Tuesdays on the Run!

Weekly Wrap: Marathon PR in New Jersey!

So spoiler alert, the New Jersey Marathon was a HUGE success!  I’m happy to say that I was able to get a PR in my second marathon by about 24 minutes!  The race day definitely brought on a few surprises, but fortunately, everything worked out perfectly!  Now, I’m not saying that this race was easy, but I was well prepared and determined to run strong, and thanks to Coach Laura, I was able to achieve my goal!

Bret joined me for the weekend in New Jersey and ran the half marathon.  We had a really nice weekend “getaway”.  It was great to see him cheering me at the finish along with some of my City Fit Girls and he seemed to beam with pride after I crossed the finish.  It’s still all so very surreal!

If you’ve read my race recaps, you know I get into all the nitty-gritty.  So stay tuned for my full recap on Wednesday!  It’ll be a super long one, I’m sure…but hopefully you’ll enjoy!  This was a great race and I’m so glad that I could show how hard I’ve trained these past 4+ months without incident!

As I runfessed last week, I’m so happy to have my freedom back!  Hopefully, that means more blogging, more happy hours, and more wedding planning (ack!)!

Mission accomplished! Today I ran my second marathon, the @njmarathon, and had a 24 minute PR – 4:33:45. I felt so strong throughout the race, until mile 22! Those last 4 miles were damn tough and the headwinds didn’t help, lol, but I pushed through! I am so proud. I never thought I’d be able to maintain a 10ish pace for a marathon, just one split was over 11 – that’s huge for me! Def recommend this race: The views of the Atlantic Ocean were gorgeous, spectators lots of fun, and volunteers awesome. We started the morning with rain (!!!), then clouds, then a lot of sun. Thankfully temps were perfect! The @ctm.band and some clutch @kttape saved my feet during the race, though some manageable pain remained. Ok, I need to save something for the blog recap haha! Congrats to all the finishers today and everyone who raced this weekend! Thank you Coach @thisrunnersrecipes – hope I made you proud! I appreciate everyones support these past 17 weeks!! #RWNR #runhappy #cityfitgirls #marathon #fitbloggroup #NJMaraBR #njmarathon #runnersofinstagram #CTMBandBR #bibchat #bibravepro #runchat

Workouts for the Week:

Monday 4/23:  Runner’s Knee recovery exercises plus the CTM band for my left hamstring pain.

Tuesday 4/24:  An “easy” 4 mile run that actually had positive splits…I took things very slowly since my feet were in pain, far worse than I’ve felt this entire training cycle.  I also ran a hillier route around the ‘hood, which probably didn’t help matters.  I foam rolled post-run but and rolled my feet, but the pain was so bad I used an ice pack for relief before going to bed.

Wednesday 4/25:  Rest day!  I focused on massaging my poor feet, sigh!

Thursday 4/26:  A nice easy run in my neighborhood.  It was a beautiful day and I ended up exploring a new-to-me trail that was so much fun!  I felt much better on this day.

Friday 4/27: 2.1 easy miles on the treadmill.  I was going to do 3 but my feet were really killing me and there was no point in pushing myself.  I also did some clamshells while watching hours of Shark Tank on Friday night, lol.

Saturday 4/28:  Full rest day!  I only did some walking at the New Jersey Marathon race expo.

Sunday 4/29:  The New Jersey Marathon!

Week 17 Report Card:

Total Miles for the Week:  35.6

Total Training Miles for NJ Marathon:   424.31

My final week of tapering for the marathon was a little nerve-wracking because of all of the intense foot pain, but thankfully, I was able to make it through the race!  I probably could have done more foam rolling, but I’m not going to be too hard on myself!  Now I need to focus on recovery – I already booked my massage for the end of this week, I can’t wait!

How was your week?  Do you have any big races coming up?
