Feb 02

Baby, it is COLD outside! With the weather we’ve had lately, I think a hot beverage is in order! Since it’s the first Saturady of February, it’s time to join Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date! This is a virtual coffee date where we all share what’s been going on in our lives lately, and not just talk about health and fitness! Won’t you grab a cup and join me? I’m also joining the Weekly Wrap with Holly and Wendy!

Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would ask you…how is the weather where you live? It’s been astounding to see that the Great Lakes region is suffering with temperatures as low as -40 degrees, not including the wind chill. It makes me realize that I’ve got very little to complain about here! We just had lots and lots of rain, temperature drops to the single digits, nd then on Friday it snowed! I decided to go for a run on Thursday night and I’m so glad I did!

I’ve felt like a fair weather runner lately, which I most certainly am NOT lol. My motivation to run during the week has been low over the winter but I wrote in my Living Well planner that I would run after work today, and I did it! Initially I was going to do 2 miles but felt so good I ran 2.5 on a nice and easy, new-to-me loop. This time I didn’t feel overdressed and even got to enjoy some boy band jams along the way! 🎶 I’m not trying to brag at all… I’m trying to hype myself up, because even if you’ve run for years, it isn’t easy to face single digit wind chills or colder. The struggle is real and I am SO glad I overcame it. The run truly energized me! If we were having coffee, I would tell you…that I really enjoyed our quick getaway to Fort Lauderdale last weekend. Sadly we had to deal with a lot of rain and some chillier temperatures, but we still had such a great time! Lots of great food and drinks, and visiting the Everglades was a real highlight for us. I can see why people become snowbirds!

Running with this view was great, and just a week ago!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…that I had a goal to move my home office up in our finished attic, and I ended up getting it done way ahead of schedule! I wish I had a before photo but previously this room was full of suitcases, bins, and Christmas decorations. Now it is a truly functional space and hopefully where I can get some of my best blog writing done! Special thanks to my sister who really helped me finish the job. I had SO much to sort through that I was tempted to give up!

So happy to have this new dedicated space!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…how much I’m enjoying my classes at Y2BFit, my local barre/yoga/Pilates studio. Last month, I went to two 6 am (t)RX barre classes. Thankfully the class is only 45 minutes, otherwise, I’d be even sorer! We’ve used the (t)RX to do single leg squats, arm curls, planks…now I get why people love that thing, even though it’s a torture device! I also went to barre with a new instructor on Tuesday and she’s awesome – she doesn’t hold back! I think all of these classes are really helping with my core.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…that married life is going well! We’re a little over 3 months in now, though our 7 year anniversary is actually in a couple of weeks. It doesn’t feel too different, but I did hyphenate my name and after agonizing over the decision for so long, I’m so relieved and I actually really like it! However, I still have a lot of paperwork/documents to change, so hopefully it isn’t too much of a pain.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…that I’ve become quite the bibliophile! I set a goal to read 30 books in 2019, and I managed to finish 6 in January! I find myself spending less time watching General Hospital and more time heading to the library or loading up my Kindle, lol. I joined Goodreads and I’m hooked. I even offered to host the book club this month. Look at me being all sophisticated, ha! I just started Heartland by Sarah Smarsh (affiliate link) and I think this is gonna be a good one. To lighten things up, I’m also doing an audiobook version of Everything’s Trash But It’s Okay by Pheobe Robinson. What are you currently reading? Any recommendations?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…that I was becoming a bit obsessive about my weight over the past few months. I weighed myself almost every day for a while (to only see no change) and I started to get really frustrated and stressed. Ever since plantar fasciitis hit last year and I wasn’t able to run much, the weight seemed to creep up. Thankfully, now, I’m not focusing on a number and am instead doing my best to eat cleaner, use MyFitnessPal, continue to work out, and just not be hard on myself.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…that I’ve realized that I have a bit of a Facebook addiction. Oh, the mindless scrolling. The reading comments. The endless videos. The bad news and the “fake news”. It’s just out of control. I don’t even post anything on there! I like to have it as a mental break after a long day, but now I think it’s messing up my sleep…so it’s time to make a change. I actually took the icon off of my main screen and you wouldn’t believe how that alone makes such a difference!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…that I’m sorry I’ve been talking so much! Once I started writing the words kept flowing! I realized how much has been going on lately that I haven’t been sharing on the blog. I’m sorry about that and I am going to do my best to post more frequently and keep up with you as well! I hope you enjoyed this virtual chat!

What would you share with me over coffee?
