May 28

I hope you’re having a great day! Can you believe that we’re almost at Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer? I’m so looking forward to it!

Since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m joining Marcia for Runfessions! This is always a fun way to share some of the things that have been on my mind lately when it comes to running and fitness.

It's time to bare my "sole" with some running confessions aka runfessions! #runchat Click To Tweet
The last Friday of the month means it's time for Runfessions, and this month, I'm talking about self-doubt as a runner. Time for some real talk!

Runfessions for May

I think I’m out of my speed rut!

I previously runfessed that I was feeling like I plateaued with my running. I was working so hard over the winter training for my half and it seemed like I couldn’t get out of the 12-12:30 pace zone. Interestingly, ever since the race has passed, I’ve still been following a plan from Coach Laura and I’ve finally returned to my comfort zone of 11-11:30 for my easy weekday runs. It’s been really encouraging to see that consistency is making a difference. I hate that I get so stuck on pace sometimes, but now I’m starting to feel more like myself as a runner since having Baby E and it’s a relief. Can anyone relate?

I’m thinking of ending my barre membership

I have been practicing barre for years at my local studio. During the pandemic, they moved out of their studio and transitioned to hosting classes on Zoom. Once upon a time, I used to go to 8 classes a month, now, I’m barely getting in 2-3 despite having an unlimited membership. So I’m thinking of canceling the $70 membership and just signing up as I go. What’s holding me back? I’m torn because of the loyalty I have to the studio! They took such a hit and I feel bad for them.

I’m loving my new Puma running shoes!

Thanks to Bibrave, I’ve had the opportunity to test out the new Puma Velocity Nitro running shoes and they have been amazing for me! They are supportive while not being too squishy, and they are so lightweight! Considering they have an 8 mm drop, I’m pleasantly surprised how well I’ve been able to adapt. Maybe these will be my new go-to moving forward!

I’m a little anxious about fall races

The fall is shaping up to be an extremely busy season for racing. I think it’s great that we’ll be able to get back to our favorite sport again! I am signed up for the Philly Half Marathon in November, which I originally deferred in 2019 since I was pregnant! I’m also considering the Philly Trail Half Marathon in October, which would be my first real trail race! But at the same time, I’m dreading how crowded it’ll be on the weekends with everyone training through the summer and fall. Even though I’m fully vaccinated, I am still leery about being around so many people outside. We’ll see how it goes!

What runfessions would you share with me?
