Q1 2022 Wellness Recap

I can’t believe that I haven’t shared any wellness goals since December of last year! So I thought it would be appropriate to share how things have gone over the past 3(!) months!

January

I started out the year really strong! I started using a dedicated meal planner to log my meals and I was cooking and prepping consistently. While my running mileage was low, I started going back to my favorite barre studio (albeit virtually) and did 5 sessions of the Strides Strength Club. I also continued my meditation practice.

February

Things started to falter a little bit on the meal planning front, but I did start training for the Hot Chocolate 15K, so I was more intentional about running.

March

I totally fell out of my meal planning routine, ugh! But I did have a meeting with my new dietitian and she helped give me some strategies to to get back on track. Of course, I ended up having a pretty busy month so it hasn’t gone as expected, but I did my best. I started running longer miles and got to meet up with Strides for an in-person run! It was definitely a highlight. Snacking really took over though as I tried to de-stress in the evenings from work and family life.

April Wellness Goals 2022
  • Shift to an earlier bedtime during the week. OMG, my sleeping patterns have been the worst lately! Because I work in the office 3 days a week, I have to take an extremely early train (6 am), which means I have to wake up and get ready for work prior to that (5:15 am). While I’ve been able to handle this type of schedule in the past, now I’m getting home after 5 pm (as opposed to 4 pm) and with getting E ready for bed and eating dinner, I don’t get too much time to myself until the evening. So that has made my bedtime creep way too late…and I’m feeling the effects: tired, difficulty concentrating, etc. It’s time for me to start actually listening to my 9:30 pm alarm and get the sleep I desperately need!
  • Complete Peloton Strength and Activity Challenges for April. A while back I mentioned my reticence to getting on the Peloton bandwagon, and while I’m not fully converted yet, I’m really enjoying my free trial! This is my last month with free access to the app so I want to make the most of it. My goal is to do 10 days of workouts on the app including 5 days of strength, which fortunately includes yoga which I really need to get back to! I’m also interested in trying a barre class or two. I’m surprised how much I’ve enjoyed the audio runs, post-run stretches and foam rolling. If you’re on Peloton, what are your favorite activities? My username is Janizzle86!
  • Cut back on sugary sweets. Do any of you remember my heavy “addiction” to Twizzlers? Well, it’s come back with a vengeance over the last couple of months. I have been doing so much evening snacking with Twizzlers and/or Girl Scout Cookies of assorted flavors. My workout plan has been going pretty well, but I still seem to fall back on these “comfort foods” and I am ready to reign it in. I am definitely a stress eater!

How has your wellness and fitness been going? What goals do you have for April?
