Weekly Run Down: Calm Before the Storm

I hope you’re doing well! The snow is coming down this Sunday morning, and I can hear the wind blowing pretty fiercely out there. We’ve been waiting to see how bad this snowstorm would be since at least last Tuesday, where they were forecasting that we could get somewhere between 6 and 30 inches of snow! If you’re impacted by this weather, I hope you and your family stay safe.

I’m so glad to be back blogging (and let it STICK this time!), and now it’s time for another Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah! I love keeping up with everyone and seeing how they’re doing with their running and workouts!

Weekly Run Down: The Storm is Coming!

Sunday 1/18: I made it out for a snowy afternoon run: 40 minutes plus 5 minute warmup and cooldown walks. The sidewalks were unpredictable, some easier to traverse than others, but thankfully I didn’t slip once. The snow was pretty wet and it was hard to see with my glasses, but it was worth running through the winter wonderland.

Monday 1/19: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. It was a rest day, but I did do a 10 minute Core Strength class to catch up on Emma’s Crush Your Core 14 Day Streak on Peloton. E actually joined me in my workout as she’s really into “yoga” these days. It was fun hitting the mat together.

Tuesday 1/20: The weather continued to be below freezing and with the icy sidewalks, I knew I’d need to take my runs indoors this week. I decided to take advantage of the treadmill at work and get my 30-minute run in. I used a treadmill running class on Peloton, which I rarely do, but since our treadmills actually connect to the app, it worked great. It was a bit tougher than I anticipated but at least the Black Eyed Peas playlist kept me somewhat distracted lol.

Wednesday 1/21: Strength training day – E has really gotten used to doing “yoga” with me, and she provided the motivation to hit the Peloton app once again. We did a 15-minute and a 5-minute core strength class. The time flew by.

Thursday 1/22: Another run on the treadmill at the workplace gym. This time I picked an advanced beginner run. My running pace has improved quite a bit over the past few months since getting back to running, but I need to keep my easy runs easy. This workout helped me slow it down.

Friday 1/23: Finally, a rest day!

Saturday 1/24: I was dragging; I really didn’t want to go out in weather with negative degree wind chill, but because Sunday was the big day of the storm, I knew this would be my last chance. It’s the first time I’ve run 3 days in a week in a VERY long time! 30 minutes in the neighborhood and about 10 minutes of a cooldown walk back home. I used a Peloton workout again to get me through. I really focused on trying to keep my heart rate down, which the stats show I was able to do! After my post-run stretching, I did an actual yoga class focused on healthy back.

Weekly Report Card

I had to dig into my blog archives to remember that I used to give myself a report card for my weekly workouts, so how did I do this past week? This was my first training week that included 3 days of running instead of 2 days. I was pretty nervous about it, but I think it went pretty well! The treadmill was much more enjoyable than I expected, so I am probably going to try to do it at least once a week. I’m really going to keep focusing on keeping the easy runs easy. Sunday is strength training day, so I’ll probably do a Peloton glutes and legs workout.

Since I had a good mix of workouts and listened to my body, I’m giving myself an A-. It’s only not an A because I should have made time to stretch after my treadmill runs, otherwise this was a very solid week!

How have your workouts been lately? Are you impacted by the big snowstorm?

  1. Oh, it’s so cute that E likes to workout with you!

How cool that the office gym treads connect to Peloton — are they Horizon treads? I really like the Peloton tread classes but I do have to worry about going too hard in the intervals, or taking too many hard classes in a week.

    Stay warm!

    1. Honestly I can’t remember the treadmill brand – they seemed pretty old so I was surprised to see that they had bluetooth capabilities LOL!

I’m glad she’s enjoying the movement with me, she’s a pretty active kid so hoping to it continues to be something fun we can do together 🙂

  2. So nice to have you back in the link up! It sure does feel good to feel like you crushed your week of workouts doesn’t it?! That is great that your daughter wants to do some of your classes with you. Hope you all survive the snow days!

  3. Congrats on increasing your run days this week! I didn’t use the treadmill all summer and getting back on it lately was enjoyable for me also. I have a lot of shows to catch up on and it’s so convenient for me, and way less laundry!!
Good job on your workouts this week! I also need to prioritize stretching after my runs.

  4. Nice job on your workouts this past week. I’m like you, I watch the weather and squeeze in workouts if it looks like I might not be able to get out for a few days. I love that your daughter enjoys working out with you!

  5. Great week, indeed! I also need to make better time to stretch, but I rarely do it. We are getting hit by the storm right now, too. It is our 2nd big storm in a few weeks – we’re never going to defrost or melt!

  6. Janelle!!!! It’s so great to catch up with you! Glad to see you’re still running. I’m only running 3 days per week, so right there with you. Stay safe in this crazy weather. I love that E loves to do yoga with you!

  7. Glad to follow you again.

Congrats on an A week of workouts and runs.

Mine was a big F – Being sick is the big reason… it didn’t help with single digit temps and snowstorm..

Hopefully I can dig out from this and return to running by the weekend. It will still be very cold…

  8. We are excited to have you back and sticking as well!

Ice is the worst, in every way! I’m glad you are staying safe and have a warmer, indoor option!

I love that you are back to sharing, giving yourself that reprot card, and hanging out with us! Can’t wait to see where your next adventures lead?
