I hope you had a good week! For me, it was long, frigid, and pretty busy. Philadelphia ended up getting about 9 inches of snow last Sunday, though I think my neighborhood got an extra inch or so, plus a layer of ice from sleet/freezing rain. We’ve had storms like this before, but we haven’t cracked 30 degrees in several days, so the snow and ice hasn’t been able to melt much. Did your area get as much snow as was originally forecast?
It’s time for another Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah! I love keeping up with everyone and seeing how they’re doing with their running and workouts!
Weekly Rundown
Sunday 1/25: With the big snowstorm, I stuck to my plan to workout indoors, doing a 30-minute glutes and strength workout on Peloton with Ben Aldis. He kept telling us to use the heavy weights but no way, my 10-pounders were more than enough. Lots of squats, lunges, and hip bridges. I followed up with a 15-minute full-body stretch.
Monday 1/26: Snow day! Very grateful for a rest day. The DOMS from Sunday’s workout kicked in almost immediately! We both worked from home, with Bret doing a lot of shoveling and me trying to keep E occupied on her day off.
Tuesday 1/27: Super sore muscles once again! But since this was a second snow day at home, I felt the itch to get out of the house. I went for a solo walk around the neighborhood, getting a good look at all of the snow. Thankfully, most people had their sidewalks cleared, but you’d be reckless to try to run out in this weather. I do have my limits, haha.
Wednesday 1/28: 30-minute run on the treadmill. This time, I did a Verzuz class with Andy Speer. The music helped keep me motivated, and I felt really strong on this run! I was back in the office, and thankfully, the trains ran smoothly. We had a departmental awards luncheon, and I was on the planning committee, so I helped with the final setup. We had Greek and Indian food, and it was delicious! Since we left the car at home, I picked up E from school and we took a bus home. She was so excited and chatted the whole way. I’m no stranger to the bus, but she made it so much more enjoyable.
Thursday 1/29: Rest day! I drove for the first time since the storm, dropping off E and heading into the office, and it was NOT fun. The roads weren’t nearly clear enough to drive comfortably, and the intersections were piled high with snow. A lot of people just decided to keep their cars buried in the snow, so I was stressed about coming home to see our parking spot taken since there are fewer options out there. Thankfully, we were in the clear. Are you team “Savesies”? We never leave out chairs or anything, but since it was trash day, I think our cans served as a good deterrent.
Friday 1/30: This was a very busy day. I got in my 30 minutes on the treadmill – this time a class with Alex Toussaint where I did push myself quite a bit. I also donated blood! It was our first blood drive at work since before COVID. It’s something I always enjoy participating in. While I had to do a re-check for iron, the actual donation was super quick – hydration is key! Then in the afternoon, I had my dental implant installed. This has been a months-long process, and the next step will finally be the new crown. It’s been a very frustrating and expensive endeavor, but it is what it is.
Saturday 1/31: I did absolutely nothing….like nothing at all LOL. I was supposed to take it easy with no strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for a while, so I pretty much lived on the couch and took my medications all day. One highlight of the day? Watching music videos on MTV Classic! Yes, the early 2000’s were a long time ago, as much as I want to deny it!
Weekly Rundown Report Card
From Monday to Sunday, I ran 2 days and walked 1 day. I had planned to do my 200th strength workout on Peloton, but the time got away from me, and I don’t want to push it while the implant heals. This Sunday, I plan to go out for another neighborhood walk and maybe do some gentle yoga. We’ve had several days in single digits and the teens, so it’s been brutal, but I think I’ve made the most of it and been pretty flexible to get the workouts done. With everything that’s been going on, I’m giving myself another A!
How was your week? How’s the weather where you live? Have you had any parking wars on your street?

This week has been really rough with the frigid temps and not being able to walk outside. Great job getting your workouts in and sticking to your plan. Hope we all get some warmer temps soon
Thanks Deborah! We need to warmup soon!!
I’m very familiar with parking wars–in Chicago, it’s called dibs and you can mark your spot. People put the craziest things out there–someone has a giant Jesus statue that always gets shared on the news. When we bought our house in the suburbs I was so excited to have a driveway. One less thing to stress about!
Nice job getting your workouts in. This weather has been hard on us runners!
The parking wars are seriously making the suburbs more tempting for our next home, haha! Our neighbor across the street has a huge driveway but will park right in front of our house (we don’t have driveways on our side). It’s mildly infuriating, but we’ve had some good karma overall with our spot being safe without having to leave a chair out there!
And thanks and same to you too – I’ve never run with Yaktraks or anything like that but it would be so nice to get to see the trails right now. For now, I live through your pics!
Wow, 9 inches? That’s a massive snowfall. I’m so sorry for that horrible weather you’re having over there. I hope it warms up soon. Good for you to have access to have some different indoor training options. Glute exercises can give some really brutal DOMS!
I used to donate blood when I was young. I liked being able to help out but often felt really bad afterwards, and later I learned I was actually depleted from having undiagnosed coeliac disease.
Thanks Susanne, I can’t wait for the warm weather to come and stay! We were teased with breaking 30 degrees a couple of days, but now we’re back in single digits. It may sound silly but lower body DOMS is probably my favorite! I like to think I’m building some strength! Wow, what a discovery – I am so grateful that I’m able to give blood, and it is typically earmarked for those with Sickle cell disease. I’m just glad to do my part.
It sounds like we’re having similar weather in Philly and the DC area – maybe a tad colder there. It certainly was tough getting outside to exercise this past week. I walked on Sunday during the snow and sleet, and then again Monday morning after the street was plowed. No parking issues here, but we’re in the suburbs and that makes a huge difference. Stay warm!
You stay warm too! There are definitely some benefits to the suburbs, I can tell! I did go out to run 2 days this week, but it was SOOO cold. These are the times I wish I had a treadmill at home!
It’s criminal how expensive dental work can be. However, I’m glad your procedure went smoothly!
we did get snow flurries, which is pretty much unheard of, but we will start warming up soon. Of course, there are lots of water and power problems from frozen pipes and utilities, but it’s all part of the adventure. Or something like that.
Thanks, Jenn! A week later and the pain has finally subsided. Frozen pipes are so scary – we have had several water main breaks and flooding basements across the city. Hope you all stay in the clear!
Our office didn’t open for real until Thursday, but I still worked from home! Last night we went out to dinner and saw so many mountains of snowcrete making it hard to see cross-traffic at intersections.
I can imagine E enjoying the bus — and making others smile too!
I’ve been using lighter weights lately to focus on my form.
This snowcrete is no joke…and other areas of the city have it so much worse than we do! She was so cute on the bus. Smart move to go to lighter weights – I probably need to get some 5’s to have something between 3 and 10!
Sorry for all the stress that came with all the snow. That sounds like a fun bus ride with your little girl 🙂 isn’t it great seeing the world through their eyes! I hope you get some above-freezing temps to help melt some of that snow.
Thankfully driving has gotten a lot better, less scary at least – but it’s still hard to park on the street with all the piles of snow! She definitely helps provide some perspective 🙂
