I hope you’re doing well! I know it’s been a little bit since my previous post. Getting back into a consistent blogging groove is clearly a work in progress. Still, I’m happy to be here!
It’s time for another Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah! I love keeping up with everyone and seeing how they’re doing with their running and workouts!
Weekly Rundown
Monday 3/2: I started my week with a 40 minute run on the treadmill. I’ve been trying to mix it up between running with music or using a Peloton class. My focus is keep easy runs easy, so sometimes the classes push me harder than I need to go.
Tuesday 3/3: Physical therapy for the low back. It’s been a lot of strength work, some stretching, hip strengthening, core work. Dead bugs have joined the chat and they are harder than they’ve ever been.
Wednesday 3/4: I really wanted an extra day to rest, but I thought it would be a good day to go outside to run. 40 minutes on the plan and I felt great, really strong. I’ve been focusing on lowering heart rate since I need to really keep the easy runs easy. That ends up slowing me down quite a bit, but I need to trust the process.
Thursday 3/5: Physical therapy again…it had been a long week and my back was feeling sore before I even started my session. By the end I was pretty over it and ready to go home! I go to PT after work so it really makes for a long day.
Friday 3/6: Rest day at last!
Saturday 3/7: Another rest day. I woke up with horrible stomach pain that I didn’t know if it was food poisoning or what. Thankfully, the pain passed, and I was still able to have a day at the Flower Show with my family, followed by lunch at a fantastic Thai place called Dara. It was a nice time! When we got home, we hung out the rest of the day and I tried to rest as much as possible. I wore the wrong sneakers to the Convention Center, so my back felt awful.

Weekly Rundown Report Card
This past week I was feeling pretty “run down” physically and mentally. Other things that happened since my last post: I was diagnosed with tendinitis in my left wrist so I’ve been wearing a brace the last couple of weeks, and I did NOT get into the Broad Street Run lottery. Instead of signing up for charity, I decided not to sign up for any major races at this time. I was very disappointed to not get in, but I’m building mileage and endurance with runs 3 days a week and I can’t handle that extra pressure right now.
All things considered, I’m going to give this past week an A when it comes to running but a C when it comes to nutrition. I usually try to start a new month strong, but I know I can get back on track with my reliable routines. I still have to do my long run today, which hopefully I’ll be working on by the time this blog is posted!
How is the month of March going for you so far? How do you feel if you don’t make a running lottery?

It seems that races are more and more popular these days and harder and harder to get into.
I can never run easy on a treadmill. I need to play with intervals to not get bored. I rely on my runs with Scooby for “easy” runs with all his stops.
Doing dead bugs correctly is surprisingly hard! I’ve grown to appreciate them more and more.
Welcome back to blogging.
I love to hear how everyone is doing.
I did see my chiro and PT for lower back pain. I have exercises to do (and I am lazy LOL) but knock on wood, it feels better.
Too bad abbot the race. Those popular races are so hard to get into.
I may do the Love Run next year. I ran it years ago in the pouring rain. Cari is running it this year. You two should connect.
The Phillyy flower show is world famous. Glad you got to go.
I got in a LOT of dreadmill runs this winter – my first weekday outdoor run since Dec. was actually this past week! I am hoping that we’re done with most of the ice and snow, but know that we have some more in the 10-day forecast. I’m sorry you didn’t get into the race – what a bummer. and hopefully your wrist starts to feel better soon!
Blogging consistently is hard! It’s good to see you back.
Ouch, that really sucks about the tendinitis. I had something like that years ago and it was so debilitating. But at least you can run!
So sorry about the lottery though.
Deadbugs are so good! I’ve kind of forgotten about them lately. Perhaps I should bring them back to some weekend routine.
I’m so sorry to hear you had a tough week! I think it’s wise to just focus on your comeback. I don’t have any races on the calendar, and I’m enjoying just running for me. It’s nice not to have the pressure.
I’ve thrown my name in the Chicago Marathon lottery a few times over the past 10 years–I sure would love one more–but I haven’t gotten in. I’m not too sad about it–not sure how my body would handle the distance!
Those lower heart rate runs can be tough to get it right. I often get frustrated with my HR and give up on the attempt! PT after work does sound like a long day, so kudos on doing all the things this week!
Yes, PT after a full day of work sounds tiring. I struggle with low back pain (not saying it’s the same issue as yours, but it’s one of my weak spots) and dead bugs usually make it feel better. It’s a great exercise for runners.
I would also give myself a C for nutrition this month- I really have some improvements to make in that area!
Training by heart rate is always challenging so good for you for trying to do it. Sounds like you are being smart easing back into running and that is never a bad idea.
Great job on your consistent running & training! I’m trying to work on my nutrition, starting with cutting way back on the sugar…which is tough, but has been pretty manageable.
I’m so sorry about Broad Street. I don’t really enter a lot of lotteries, but I do not love rejection so I know I’d be bummed if I didn’t get accepted.
Food poisoning is so awful. It’s only happened to me twice, and I have never been so miserable.
I’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t get into Broadstreet through the lottery. To answer your question, I ran many of the races that are now lottery driven long before the lottery system for races so I’ve never entered a lottery.
I hope physical therapy helps and you’re feeling better quickly!
